If you are looking for house mods that do not requite DLCs, Iâm afraid you will have hard time finding them. Here are two simple reasons:
So you see, having these mods gives the creators of the house mods a lot of scopes for creativity. The basic Skyrim game is almost 6 years old, and even the final DLC came out about 5 years ago. The Legendary Edition is 4 years old, even the new Special Edition is about a year old at this point. The Legendary and Special Editions include all the DLCs.
So when modders aim for creating house mods now, surely they wonât try to make things harder by leaving out the DLCs only to focus on vanilla game contents.
That being said, there are some really great house mods (mostly old ones, but great even by todayâs standards) that you can use without any DLCs. But make sure your Skyrim is updated to the required version! Here are some of my picks which Iâve used and can recommend:
1. Breezehome FullyUpgradable by Sku11M0nkey
Basically, this mod lets you upgrade the vanilla Breezehome you come across in Whiterun. Make sure you download the âNo DLC Editionâ version.
2. Riverside Lodge by Lupus
This mod adds a really gorgeous looking Lodge near Whiterun. Make sure to download the No DLC version!
3. Haven Bag by Haishao
This is hands-down one of the best player house mods Iâve seen in this game! It basically is a bag that you can carry, and when your carrying capacity over-exceeds and you canât just drop anything youâre holding for that fast travel option to your house, this mod is for you! Just equip the bag, and you will teleport to this âhouseâ of yours.
4. Clearsky Hideout - Fully Animated Playerhouse by Hoamaii

Another gem which doesnât require any DLCs. Spending idle time inside this house feels such refreshing! Please make sure to read the instructions before installing this mod.
Iâm sure there are some other good ones out there, but these are all the ones I can name from my experience that do not require any DLCs.
[Thanks for the A2A!]
It's time to mod. For too long this vast world of user-created weirdness has been largely limited to PC players. Games like Skyrim or Fallout could expand nearly infinitely if you played on Windows, but they were always limited to official expansions for those on console. Until 2016, that is. Skyrim Special Edition is the second Bethesda games to enable mods on console, and it can be quite a daunting prospect for people who have never encountered a system like this before. If you're on PS4, you're looking at a much more limited selection, unfortunately. It's possible Sony will see some of this negative reaction and relent, but for right now a 1 GB size limit and no external assets mean that the modding situation on PS4 is going to be severely crippled. Xbox One is a little looser, however. We're still limited when compared with PCs, but there are plenty of mods out there to spruce up and shift your gaming experience. So, without further ado, five mods to start with for Skyrim Special Edition on Xbox One:
Skyrim Special Edition Best House Mod
If the unofficial patch is the definitive bug-fixer, The Forgotten City is the definitive new piece of content. It's basically an unofficial expansion, adding in a whole new questline with moral dilemmas, multiple endings and full voice work. It's perfect for someone that's already done much the questing that they're interested in doing with the main game and wants to see something new.
If you cannot, for the life of you, stand going through that interminable opening with the cart and the dragon one more time, this is for you. Gives an alternate start to the game so that you don't boot the thing up and get bored in 20 minutes like I tend to whenever I end up trying to get through Helgen again.
I spent a whole lot of time in my first playthrough so stacked with valuables that I would empty out just about every vendor I came across. This mod solves that problem by giving all the merchants 10,000 gold and allowing you to actually unload some of those gems you've been hauling around. A pretty simple quality of life fix, and one that can ease things through, especially on a second playthrough.
This is a bit of a cheat, because it also requires the camping mod to work, so this is two in one listing. But the point remains. Have you ever noticed how nobody seems to mind how frigidly cold it is in Skyrim? This works on that. You've now got to protect yourself from the elements with the new 'exposure' status, which you can combat with clothing, a torch, frost resist and more. And you can no longer go swimming in arctic waters without any adverse effects. It's customizable, so you can turn this into a hardcore survival sim or just lightly add some new elements.
There are of course, many more, but these are all solid additions to the game. If you like others, sound off in the comments.
Bethesda has re-released Skyrim for every electronic device in living history, including the trusty microwave. As for the Special Edition on PC, many wondered why the company even bothered since graphics are only marginally better, but what makes this latest version so good is the addition of 64-bit support. This unlocks the full potential of Skyrim and its modding community, enabling for a more stable experience. We'll show you how to install mods and completely change Skyrim.

How to install mods for Skyrim Special Edition
In this guide, we'll be using Vortex (previously called Nexus Mod Manager), which is universally recommended to keep things organized and to make installing larger packages an absolute breeze. Nexus is a dedicated platform for modders to release and update their mods for various titles, including Skyrim Special Edition. As well as publishing their content, Nexus also enables for discussion, feedback, support, and more. The website is fairly easy to navigate with most mods correctly categorized for convenient filtering.
Installing Vortex
We need to run Skyrim SE to the main menu before activating mods, so give the game a boot to initial menu and then quit. This will create the much-needed .ini file for editing and will ensure we don't run into issues with mods not working correctly at a later date.
Installing Mods
Now it's time to select and install some mods. We rounded up some of our favorite Skyrim mods to get you started.
Once you have a few mods downloaded you may notice the load order start to populate. This list is important because some mods and files need to be loaded by the game in a specific order. Mod authors generally offer information in mod descriptions on the Nexus should their files require to be configured in a set order, and there are even tools available like LOOT that can check to see if there are any problems with your setup.
Modders create and release extra content for fun and for the love of scripting, but leaving an endorsement or even a donation can provide much-needed feedback, especially if you've enjoyed hours of entertainment because of said mod(s). Leaving a few dollars can really make their day, but do consider at least leaving a comment and endorsing their work. Skyrim wouldn't be the same without its excellent modding community.

DONâT MISS: This is the most stunning iPhone 8 mockup yet
Before you begin, youâre going to want to head to the Bethesda account page and either sign in with your Bethesda account information or make a new account if you donât have one. This is necessary for installing mods on console.
Now that youâre logged in, you can start adding mods to your game. You can browse through all of the currently available mods by heading to this page on Bethesdaâs website and picking your platform from the drop-down menu.
[Quick warning before we begin: Youâre going to notice a huge disparity between the amount of mods available for Xbox One versus PS4. This is because the PS4 version doesnât allow external assets (i.e. anything modder create using assets not already contained within the base game), cutting out support for many of the best and most inventive mods. If youâre trying to decide which version to buy based solely on mod support, we have to recommend Skyrim on Xbox One.]

Arcadiaâs Farm
A small working farm named after the Whiterun Alchemist with player home across the road from the Whiterun Stables. Part of the âGrow Your Ownâ series of Mods. Longer Days
âLonger Daysâ is a very basic mod that adjusts the timescale in Skyrim to 10 (from 20), as well as adjustments to the Fast Travel speed multiplier to make the in-game time that passes resemble that if you were to walk instead. As an added bonus, it lowers the respawn time on uncleared cells to one week (240 > 168) and replaces a vanilla loading screen message about fast traveling. Because why not?

Rain and Snow FX allows your character to show frost and wetness (complete with dripping particle effects) when in the rain and in snowstorms. Your skin will also be wet during and just after swimming. When the weather clears or you walk into an interior, the effect will quickly go away. When in the snow, your skin and armor will ice over in a noticeable way. When in the rain, the effect is more subtle, but your skin will be shiny and dripping.
